Premier indoor climbing gym above Tai Seng MRT offering technical bouldering routes, natural lighting, and comprehensive amenities for climbers of all levels in Singapore's commercial district.
Boulder Movement Tai Seng stands as one of Singapore's premier indoor climbing destinations, offering a modern bouldering experience in the heart of the bustling commercial district. Located at 18 Tai Seng Street above the MRT station, this expansive climbing gym opened during the pandemic in 2020 and features twice the floor space of its downtown sister location. The facility boasts impressive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere for climbers of all skill levels to challenge themselves on professionally set routes.
The gym operates with carefully planned hours designed to accommodate both working professionals and dedicated climbers, opening Monday evenings from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday with split sessions from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM, and extended weekend hours from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM during weekends and public holidays. Entry fees are set at 0 per session, with the unique advantage of providing access to all five Boulder Movement locations across Singapore including Downtown, Rochor, and Bugis outlets. The facility includes essential amenities such as onsite toilets, changing rooms, showers, and work-friendly tables with power outlets, while offering free parking at 18 Tai Seng after 5:00 PM on weekdays for added convenience.
What sets Boulder Movement Tai Seng apart from other climbing gyms is its focus on technical climbing over pure strength-based routes, utilizing the higher walls and expanded space to create more sophisticated route sequences. The gym features a diverse array of climbing surfaces including overhang, incline, straight, and slab walls, crowned by a challenging climbing cave that promises steep technical challenges. Route setters regularly refresh the climbing problems to maintain engagement, with color-coded difficulty levels catering to everyone from nervous first-timers to expert boulderers. The facility serves the growing community of office workers, students, and climbing enthusiasts in the Tai Seng area, establishing itself as a hub where technical skill development meets the social aspects of the climbing community, making it an essential destination for anyone seeking to experience the mental and physical challenges of modern bouldering in Singapore's eastern region.
Overall a great gym with good lighting, facilities and helpful staff. However, climbing is king and the routes were wonky at best. Maybe it just wasnt my style but some routes were honestly just confusing in its setting while I was there. Great place to visit if you want to try out bouldering, otherwise the other BM gyms are better imo.

Fun experience at Boulder Movement. New and clean facility. Will come back again.

I like that it was bright due to the glass window/door, natural light made the place feel 'alive'.
The walls were pretty tough for me being a beginner but I tried as many as I could and had fun. My son totally enjoyed his climbs.
The washroom and changing rooms were clean. But I would suggest that slippers be provided for the restroom as barefoot restroom just doesn't feel hygienic as there will always be somebody who misses the aim and that will land on the restroom floor.
And.. if like me you happen to injure yourself there, they have plasters for you. 😆

Nice and clean outlet. Friendly coach. Coach Coly was patient through out the class. Routes were challenging. Kids enjoy themselves too.

This is my first time joining the single entry pass at the Tai Seng branch. I love the clean and cozy concept here. They provide a shower room with soap, lockers, and a changing room. Also you can easily purchase the class via application/website.

Tai Seng stands out for being lit by abundant natural light. The walls and mat feel and look clean. Located just above the Tai Seng MRT, it connects to the entire North East area through the NEX interchange. For someone staying in the Northeast, this is the most well connected climbing gym with a host of cafes and restaurants in the same building.
Some of the design decisions gave me pause, but my interpretation is that the place gives what you need and nothing that you don’t. The lockers have no locks, since all the lockers are in plain view of everyone who is climbing. That the establishment dares to have lockers with no locks suggests a kind of open, warm, family like community that the management has managed to build up. I brought my phone with me though, so that I could have someone take videos of my climbs.
The philosophy of providing focused amenities seem to extend also to the design of the walls. A short conversation with the friendly staff would have you realise that this is not the place to bring kids. They are simply not their target audience. There is no separate pricing for them, and none of the routes are designed with the shorter reach of smaller bodies in mind. My approach to this is to place my kids at another climbing establishment, and treat the Tai Seng facility as my practice zone with the wife.
The showers are clean during the off-peak times that I visited, and there is hot water. Shower gel and shampoo containers were full and their offerings carried a pleasant fragrance. There is a changing room which is equipped with a hair dryer. Water cooler for your water bottle is available. There is a towel service here, where you can get a clean towel for $2 (the charge is waived if you sign up to be a long-term member).
All bookings are done through the Boulder Movement app which functions well in its critical areas, although some of the transactions require some faith in it ( you have to scroll down on some of the pages or else it will not refresh, showing you only a blank screen that makes you wonder where you took a wrong turn). I am also a little bugged (pun intended) that the app does not allow you to book a climbing session once the starting time has arrived, even if there are open slots.
BM offers a trial subscription which allows you to sign up for five sessions of climbing time( of three hours each) or bouldering classes. If you are like me, you will want to use all of the trial sessions for the classes. This is because climbing passes go for around $25 per session if you buy them in a pack of ten, which is the cheapest it goes, while class passes retail at $45. So going full in for the classes meant that you get $225 worth for your trial, while all climbing time utilisation will only get you $125 worth.
I want to interspace the classes with climbing time to practice what is taught. So the way to do that is to either sign up as a member, which allows unlimited entry to the facility, or to buy the passes. However, where this requires a bit of jiggling with the staff as that the app is not too clever, and may use the trial credits for the climbing time, instead of the passes or the membership that you bought. So option 1 is to sign up for all the classes before you sign up as a member, or you can buy the passes, and get the staff to manually key in your desire to use the passes for the climbing time, while saving your trial credits for the classes.
Throughout my cheapo efforts to get the most bang for my buck, I communicated extensively with the BM staff and found them very accommodating and communicative to my requests. At no point was I made to feel cheapo/kiasu about my questions (even though I was lah, singaporean mah).
In a nutshell, a great place to climb, with extremely accommodating and professional staff whom you can have a real conversation with about the sport.

First time here, vibe here was great, clean and neat, just a lil small, cosy place to boulder. Better to go during non-peak hours. Very convenient connected to Tai Seng MRT.

Bright with lots of natural lighting, overall a nice place to gym. Some of the V4s and V5s felt like V7s though. Oh and the music choice is great!

Love this outlet most of the 4; it's bright with natural lighting and more chill and cosy. Wonderful routesetters and kind staff make it a lovely place to hang with friends! Very convenient from 18 Taiseng mall from the MRT.

Very clean gym! With weights, stretching area and other facilities. The boulders seem a little tougher than other BM gyms, it feels more like a training gym, but it's a nice and humbling challenge.
The gym is a little too small however, when there's more than just a few people, you end up having to wait your turn to climb on almost every boulder, which takes away some of the fun. Still a lot of fun though!

Clean but tiny gym. Front desk staff was very friendly. Problems were fun but generally soft. Very small work out area. Climbers were extremely friendly, nice community.

Bought their starter pack and came here for an onboarding session. It was a nice session, and our instructor Kelly was really patient and taught us a few techniques to start off. :)
A very clean gym with nice amenities. Routes are challenging and diverse, would 10/10 come here again to get rekt.

One of the more open, spacious climbing gyms. The routes refresh often enough and keep us on our toes (sometimes literally). Always very clean and never too crowded.

BM Tai Seng has got to be my favourite climbing gym to date. It is very spacious with lots of natural light coming in, and different walls which are thoughtfully catered to climbers of all ability. The staff are extremely attentive and responsive, willing to go out of their way to help, and I was very impressed by that.
I’ve been to a number of different gyms and have to say that BM has such a unique culture. It really draws climbers together - I have found such a warm, cosy, good hearted community here after a few months of climbing, and it’s all thanks to the founders being very thoughtful to create a community space that is friendly to both beginners and advanced climbers alike.
